A trip to New York was part of an ongoing year of celebrations for my 60th birthday, and there is the first clue. This is very smart hotel in a smart area of New York and is most definitely geared up for the 'younger generation'.Yes there is a rooftop bar & pool (like many hotels in NY I gather) but there is the constant playing of music which was not to our taste (give me 70's rock any day) coupled with the cost of drinks ($27.00 for a small beer and an equally small Merlot) we only visited the once. Being a Brit I like my cuppa, however no tea making facilities in the room! We did manage to procure a kettle and eventually some larger cups (espresso cups just don't do it for me) and the fact that I had taken my own tea bags I was good to go. My husband on the other hand likes a coffee and as there was a pod machine in the room he indulged himself, not until we got home did we find out the hotel charge $2 per pod used, not much I grant you but please! Everything else in the room (it was a bit like a shop really) had a price tag even down to the stuffed toy goose on the bed at $10! We had taken great care not to use anything believing the coffee would be complimentary. The room itself was comfortable and the bathroom immaculate, there is even an evening 'turn down service' which took me by surprise the first night, however they only turn down one side of the bed and leave what looks like a tea towel on the floor by the bed, again only on one side! That brings be to the day we checked out, we were told "all paid up" so left not realising we hadn't been given a bill which we subsequently emailed them for which was when we discovered the charge for the coffee which we did query by return email but heard nothing from them! Also on arrival we were told, by reception, that we had only paid a deposit and I knew full well that the total for the room, over $1000 had already been charged to my credit card and paid off, to say I was not amused was an understatement. As part of the hotel there is a restaurant called The Chester, we ate in there one night as we'd had a very busy day and just wanted to eat and flop, well that was our mistake we had two burgers in buns with salad and a couple of glasses of wine and the bill was over $80 (more than £60)! It also seems to be run for the benefit of some of the staff and their friends, not good for business. As I always say when writing a review these are my experiences and thoughts put down on 'paper' for others to read and take heed as desired. If it sounds like the type of hotel you would enjoy go for it! Me I'll pass on a second visit.

Nice reception, quaint room, excellent restaurant and shopping neighborhood ! Lots of club and rooftop bar in the area! Road work which has been going on for two years is noisy from early morning and rooms facing it have little privacy from construction!

In the core of meatpacking. Actually a huge construction site. Very noisy during the day and night. Fun if you want to party, avoid it if you prefer to rest. Very pricy. Coffee capsules for 2$, water for 6$. Beer on the roof top 10$. You pay the view.

I know New Yorkers aren't big on the Meatpacking District but I still love it. Personally I always find the staff to be great, the rooms clean, the customer service on point and the location can't be beat. Having a roof top pool is always and amazing bonus to escape the summer heat. I love how they only let the hotel guests use it, which allows for it not to be crowded. The sizes of the rooms are decent for NYC and I personally have no negative things to say about the hotel. Over the years the crowd that comes to the rooftop bar has gotten to be a quite younger crowd but that doesn't bother since we never really spend time there. It is what it is. If you are looking for a quiet weekend and an older crowd this is not the place for you. This hotel tend to be pretty lively but for me I like that.

I stayed at the Gansevoort during Fashion week and I would definitely recommend it for the great location in the buzzing Meatpacking district and the spacious rooms (not that easy to find in NYC). A bit too busy over the weekend as lots of people go up to the rooftop but hotel floors are quiet and you don't get disturb. The team at the reception is amazing and really helpful: I made a mistake with my flight dates and had to add one extra night to my staying, the guy at the front desk helped me find a room (even though my travel agency said it was fully booked!). He saved me! One of my fav hotels in the city!
